HIV testing among African people in England
12th African HIV Research Forum (AHRF) seminar on HIV testing, London, 25th June 2010.
Speakers: Peter Weatherburn
This talk summarised evidence on perceptions of HIV status, and experiences of HIV testing among African people in England participating in our Bass Line survey in 2008-09. It also examined the HIV prevention needs associated with HIV testing and the relationship between interventions that promote HIV testing and the needs of African people the interventions are meant to serve. The speaker suggested that simply encouraging people to test for HIV, would not be sufficient to persuade them to do so, and that more effort should go into meeting the information (and motivation) deficits that make people unlikely to test.
