State of the UK HIV epidemic and key prevention policies.
Reinvigorating HIV Prevention: International Policy Dialogue (Health Canada / UNAIDS). Ottawa, Canada, Feb 28th - Mar 2nd, 2011.
Speakers: Catherine Dodds
This invited presentation was delivered alongside a range of other similar presentations offering a snapshot of epidemiological trends and prevention challenges in a range of high-income countries with concentrated HIV epidemics. After giving an overview of the Health Protection Agency’s epidemiological report on HIV and some of the key emerging issues, the presentation briefly describes national policy approaches to directly addressing the epidemic. The second part of the presentation focuses on our collective needs in the HIV prevention field, including: better indicators of success, sufficient attention to structural features of, and responses to the UK epidemic, an increased focus on prevention needs, and a capacity to balance social and behavioural interventions in an environment that increasingly prioritises biomedical ones.
