What’s the point of HIV prevention?
UK meeting of the International Society for Critical Health Psychology, Milton Keynes, 15th September 2010.
Speakers: Ford Hickson
This talk considers the unspoken goals behind intervening on gay and bisexual men's sexual behaviour in the name of HIV prevention. Three versions of the epidemic are presented: a stigmatising narrative in which HIV risk is the property of other people; a public health narrative in which HIV risk is shared by the entire population; and a community narrative in which HIV risk is both shared by the population and is balanced by desires and needs for living well.
