New website: Gay men's sex survey

Tell us your professional view about NICE guidance on increasing the uptake of HIV testing among men who have sex with men (MSM)

Duration: August 2010 - December 2010

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is developing intervention guidance on ‘Increasing the uptake of HIV testing to reduce undiagnosed infection and prevent transmission among men who have sex with men (MSM)’. NICE is an independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance on promoting good health and preventing and treating ill health. The draft guidance is available in full here on the NICE website.

• The guidance is intended for commissioners, clinicians, managers, policy makers and other practitioners within the NHS, local authorities and the wider public, private, voluntary and community sectors in England.
• It includes 8 recommendations about effective and cost effective interventions which aim to increase the uptake of HIV testing to reduce undiagnosed HIV infection among MSM in England.
• It is based on a review of the effectiveness of interventions, as well as a review of evidence of barriers and facilitators to testing and an economic analysis.

NICE have commissioned NatCen (National Centre for Social Research), Sigma Research and NAM to test this guidance with a range of practitioners in England.

If your job role means you work directly with, or influence the lives of men who have sex with men in England, in the fields of health, social care, policy or advocacy, we need you to complete this online survey. If you attended a consultation event on this topic in the past month, please do not complete the survey, but pass this email on to a colleague who did not have the chance to attend.

• The survey should take about 15 minutes to complete.
• It contains the text of each recommendation so you don’t need to look at the recommendation document in advance.
• It is anonymous.
• Once you have completed the survey, you can nominate up to three colleagues to also complete it.

NICE are inviting more general feedback on the guidance on their own website. This survey is different as we are directly approaching professional networks, and are asking specific questions about each recommendation. To complete the survey, click here or go to http://www.msmconsultationnice.org.uk.

The survey closes at 5pm on Wednesday 10th November, so please complete it immediately. We would really value your input.
